The Rubbettino Print was founded in the small village of Soveria Manelli sometimes in the year 1972. The publishing house, founded as a small typography company had gone on to become one of the biggest publishing houses in the whole of Italy. The company was founded by Rosario Rubbetino who was then working as a secretary at the Media School. The young man, not one to be satisfied with the prospects of a promising career decided to launch his new business in the small village in the Calabria region despite the many problems associated with that part of Italy at the time.
At inception, the company faced a lot of challenges, several of which include the unavailability of enough manpower to hire for the job in the firm because the village community was made up of local people who were mostly focused on Agriculture. There was also the lack of a direct network link to provide access to the rest of Italy due to the remoteness of the village. Rosario Rubbetttino chose this location purposefully to impact the economic and political environment but this brought on a lot of challenges for the firm at its early stage. These problems of localization coupled with the sheer ineptitude and fecklessness that had eaten deep into the public sector presented the company with a lot of challenges but Rosario Rubbettino, like the passionate entrepreneur he was, took the publishing house to rise above all these challenges.
Today, the small firm started as a small typography company is now one of the leading Italian publishing houses and have produced well over 6400 titles in their catalog, producing 400 new titles every year. The publishing house, known for its various works regarding political liberalism also publishes short novels, non-fiction and other issues bordering on philosophy and religion.Production started in the firm with the publication of works of local interests but soon expanded to cover topics related to the Calabria region where it operates and the Mezzogiorno region. Further expansion into the mainstream Italian society meant the company had to begin publishing works bordering on international and Italian history, the politics, philosophy, and religion. The publishing house is now headed by Florindo Rubbettino, the chairman alongside his brother, Marco after the demise of their father, Rosario Rubbettino in the year 2000 shortly after the new 10,000m2 plant was inaugurated.
